ND Graphics - Commercial Photography Award
Award:
The heart of this program has always been the commercial application of photography. What is commercial photography? It is the use of photography to sell something; fashion, products, services, food or architecture. The students as art director and stylist designed and photographed these images to entice you to buy something. May the best commercial photog win!!
The submissions below showcase the many facets of commercial photography. From all the Faculty and Staff good luck to all who submitted. Thanks to our sponsor nd graphics Ottawa for continuing to support our students and our spectacular judge.

JUDGE’S FEEDBACK
“This was a tough decision, as there were many great submissions. The main criteria that I was looking for when choosing a winner was lighting, composition, and art direction/concept. Commercial photography requires a lot of pre-production planning and a knowledge of how best to showcase your clients product or service.
I chose Brendan Yannoulopoulos as this year’s winner of the Commercial Award because I felt his image served the product perfectly. The lighting on the body wash is soft with well placed highlights, echoing the steamy environment of a shower. The choice of background colour nods nicely to the octopus graphic on the bottle as well. The composition is clean and overall I believe this is an effective commercial ad.
I’d also like to give a shout out to Hailey Quensel, as her whiskey image had beautiful lighting and colour scheme. This image has a lot of potential, I think with a small adjustment in styling so that the logo was more of the focus it would have been more effective.
Finally, one last shout out to Avery Flanders, who’s image was my personal favourite, but I felt it was more fine art and would look lovely framed on the wall of a café.
Thank you to the professors for giving me the opportunity to judge this award. I’m honoured to make this decision and I’d like to congratulate all the graduates for their hard work, especially in these difficult times. I wish all the best to your future endeavours!”
