JUDGE:

Matthew Hawes is 1/2 of Age of Indie; an editorial, ‘collector of the moment’ wedding photography team based in Ottawa, ON. Established in 2020, Matthew has travelled throughout Canada documenting weddings and engagements. They are heavily inspired by the offbeat moments on a wedding day that are perfectly imperfect and that represent the people in them, in an effort to document weddings exactly how they felt. They are about real people and real moments. They photograph with the motto, ‘you be you, leave everything else to us’.

Judge’s Comments:

Ultimately, the winning portrait that stands out from the rest is Maddison Morrow. Their portrait is not just technically great, it also conveys a sense of emotional depth and human connection. The composition and lighting of the portrait, you can tell, was also carefully considered, with attention paid to framing, colour, and texture.

In the end, their image is the best because it left a lasting impression, evoking a sense of wonder and intrigue about the subject's story and character.

The runner up, Paige Robertson, congrats!!
